Callie's Ear

Our poor Calliope did not have a very good start to the New Year.
Missing a little part of herself, but keeping her spirits high.

A couple days before the new year, Callie and one of our male dogs got into a scrap. Her ear was ripped to shreds, well at least that's how it seemed. After cleaning it up and getting a better look, we noticed that it was ripped from one side to the other The tip of her ear was hanging on by a centimeter. The cartilage in the ear was ripped and separated.

The vet was able to attach the ear tip back to its proper place. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough blood flow to the tip of the ear and it need to be removed.

We had to bandage up her ear as it was bleeding and dangling lower then her face.
She would shake and get blood everywhere :(
This picture was taken at the vet before her reattachment surgery.

This picture shows the ear reattached a day after surgery. Callie wasn't to happy about the cone and was able to get it off several times within a 9 day period.

On day ten, after Surgery one, Callie went back to the vet to get stitches out and to see if the ear tip attachment was successful. It wasn't, as there was no blood flow to the tip. Callie stayed that day and had her second surgery to remove the died tissue. The vet saved the tip for me, shown in picture above. I was little a grossed out, but worth the picture.

Above and below pictures are Callie the night after Surgery two. This is the good angle and it just looks a little shorted then the left ear. The right ear is actual more ridged then it looks. I'll get more pictures as her ear heals and the fur grows back.
