Busy, Busy, Busy

Not long after posting my last entery, did most of my girls come into season. So here is my litter update.

On the 19th of May we took a trip out to Laura's place (Koyote Kennels) and dropped off Winnie. We weren't expecting her to fall into season for another 2-3months, so we figured a summer litter would be nicer to have then a winter litter. We have pair Winne up with Tatsu, a Black & Tan with awesome lines. Tatsu is a bit smaller, but that's what I like. I am hoping a small female shows up from this breeding as we plan on keeping one back. This pup will be a second generation Barrett Shiba. I am very excited.

The same day we dropped Winnie off, we picked up Grizz, owned by Jodi of Bracko Kennels. Our plans were to keep Grizz with us until Tina come into season. Low and behold, when we arrived back home that night, Tina surprized us all. What are the odds!! We are hoping a breeding will occur with these two in the next week. I am very exited for this litter as well. Grizz is a beautiful sesame and we hope to have some sesame pups. If a second female is born, we will keep her back as well. To the right is a picture of Tina and Grizz. Grizz is a busy body, so it was a little hard keeping him still enough to take a shot!

So far we now have four planned breeding all due about 1.5 weeks apart from each other. If that doesn't sound like a hand full ... Molly, who only has a heat once a year, decided that she didn't want to feel left out. We missed out last year on her breeding, so this was a must this year. We plan to pair her up with Shubert. So that makes 5 summer litters (if all take). I am thankful that my mom, who has been raising Scotties and Schnauzer for several years, is going to help me out on this one. With having no litter on the way this summer, she is going to help whelp and house two of my Shiba moms/litters.

Upcoming Plans

We are excited for our upcoming litters this year.

  • As of now, we are expecting a litter due early July. These breeding was with our Takeo and Mitsue. Takeo has already produced top quality pups for us. Mitsue has had two beautiful litters with her previous owner  but this will be the first litter with us. We are excited to see the out come.
  • We are planning Tina's very first litter this Summer. If all goes to plan, she will be breed with Ch. Bracko's Grizzly Adams. He is owned by Bracko Kennels, one of Alberta's reputable Shiba breeders. With knowing their heritage, I am assuming only reds and sesames will be produced. It will be a nice surprise if a black and tan shows up.
  • Our third planned litter is with our 'Winners' (Winnie) this coming Fall. Just like Tina, she will be breed with another male outside our kennel. I hope to keep a black and Tan female out of this breeding. Winnie will be bred to a black and tan male from Koyote Kennels (an outstanding Shiba breeder in Alberta).  No waiting lists will be held on this litter as I would like to see the outcome first.

Not only are we planning on keeping a pup or two back this year. We are in search for a new male to be added to our pack. We have a possibility coming this June as we await the arrival of a litter in the US. We are on a waiting list. I am crossing my fingers that it's a good size litter with a few males. If this doesn't fall in our favor, the search will still be on.

Growing Creams

Our litter of creams are growing like weeds. They have started their house training four days ago and we have yet to have a poop accident in the house. I am very proud of them! They all love going outside and romping around in the grass. Orange has the potential to be a water dog. She loves playing in the large water dishes outside; splashing her two front paws until her front end is soaking wet. Blue, who is still looking for her forever home, is always sneaking into her mommy's run for a little afternoon snack. Their is a small opening where the gate meets the fence post that Blue always manages to get threw (and only her). In less then a week three of our girls will be going to their new homes. (Pink, Orange and Purple).
Green will soon follow after.

Update!

I haven't been blogging this past month due to my silly computer not letting my access my google account! Never the less, we are still here and going good.

Our litter of Cream puppies are growing fast. Just over 5 1/2 weeks old they are little poop machines. Their little personalities have been starting to come out; we have the very outgoing , always on the go pup to the more mellow, take things as it comes pup. The are not too fond of their puppy play pen anymore, they much rather be running around the living room or kitchen with our older Shibas. Winnie has taken a great liking to this litter ... she likes to play mommy; cleaning up after them, teaching them to play, even tried nursing them with out any milk!! If we ever needed a foster mom, we know Winnie is up for the job.

We are excepting another litte the first week of July. Takeo and Mitsue bred last night! I'll keep you posted.

Shiloh found a new home the begining of April. It was sad letting her go, but she is doing great. I was able to see her on the 1st of the month ... at the local Calgary shiba meet up. She ran right up to me and covered me with kisses. I was so happy to see her and to see that she was so happy with her new family.
