December Update

To our Blog followers, Merry Christmas from all of Barrett Shiba's!

As mentioned in our last posting, we will not be having a Christmas litter this year. Tina had a false pregnancy. We are however going to try breeding her again on her next heat in a few months or so. Cross fingers!!

Cincin fell into season and we have breed her with Takeo. We should see signs in a month to weather or not the breeding took. If it did, puppies would be due end of January. This is a repeat breeding. Her last litter she had 5 beautiful red pups and we look forward to seeing more great looks and good temperaments in our next Cincin x Takeo litter.



 

Our young pups are growing fast.

~Hiro is now 8 months old and is one good looking boy. He loves his Shiba family and loves to wrestle with his best friend Molly. Hiro can be a stinker at times ... jumping up on the kitchen table to find treats, etc ... but all and all, he is an awesome Shiba! I am so thankful we got the opportunity to co-own him with Laura at Koyote Kennels.

~Ebony is turning into a big sweetheart. She loves to sit by our feet and wait for her cuddles ... not too pushy unless it comes to meal time. At that point she can be a little piggy and get very hyper! She is going to be a big girl when she is an adult. She is very well built and sturdy. (4months old)

 

~Bliss is a very energetic pup. She is your typical naughty pup... always finding something to chew (other then a doggie toy), sneaking into laundry baskets, bugging all the other dogs, racing around the house non stop, barking, etc. Never the else, we still love and adore her.  She is still so small compared to her sister Ebony. Her sesame coloring is coming in so nicely; it will be exciting to see what her adult colors will look like. (4 months old).

~ Teddy was gone for a couple weeks in November as we tried to have a co-ownership home for him. It didn't work out so he will be coming home to us this month. We look forward to seeing him again and I am sure he will love to be around all his Shiba family! (4 months old)

The rest of our adult Shiba's are doing well and loving the snow this year.

Planned Litters

We had a planned breeding for Tina and Takeo this Winter; pups would have been due Dec7th.
With only 2 weeks away, it looks like there was a false pregnancy.

No Christmas Puppies this year!!

Our next planned breeding's we are hoping take place early 2011 so we have Spring puppies. We plan to do one more breeding with Cincin and Takeo. This is a repeat breeding and all pups will be red.

Calgary Shiba Meet Up

We were able to attend this months Shiba Meet Up in Calgary.

Update on Shiloh

Shiloh was a very special pup to the Barrett Shiba pack. We brought her home at 9 weeks old last November(2009) and she stayed with us until the following April. Shiloh is a gorgeous black and tan with an awesome tail (I really liked her tail!). We decided to rehome her as she had a bad bite and we didn't want that passing down to future Barrett Shiba Pup. It was a struggle for me to let her go as she became my little baby ... but I just want to report that she went to a loving home. Shiloh recently turned one in September. She has done so well in her new home. She is the princess of the house ... receiving lots of treats, love, snuggles and even massages!! Thank you Wanda and Larry for adding Shiloh to your family!

we have another new addition, Hiro. 

We co-own Hiro with Laura Lange of Koyote Kennels were he was bred and born.

Hiro is a stunning red male at only 6months old. 

I can't image how gorgous he will be as an adult. He is our first Nippo Shiba (Japan lines).

He resides with us and we have enjoyed him amensly these past couple weeks.

August Update

Since my last post we have good news and bad.

All our Shiba litters have arrived. Unfortunately, Tina's litter of 3, didn't make it past 24hours. Tina is recovering well. She seemed depressed and confused the first day or two, but is now back to her old self. As for the other moms and pups, all are doing excellent.

Cincin had a beautiful red litter of 3 girls and 2 boys. They were born July 14th. Now 3 weeks old, they have already mastered walking, fussing and being so darn irresistible. My favorite out of this bunch is the smallest boy. He was the same size as the rest of his siblings until this past week and a half. Now he is about half the weight of his brother and still fitting in the palm of my hand. I think he might be a Mame Shiba (Mame meaning bean ... a name they choose for smaller Shibas reaching around 10lbs at adulthood). This little guy is also they most outgoing and curious right now. As for the girls, we are plan to keep one from this litter as we are rehoming Cincin this fall. Our little girls' name is Libby. We will pick her out around 6-7 weeks of age.

Winnie was the next to have her pups. Born July 27th, 3 boys and 3 girls. We were hoping for a least one or two Black and Tan pups to be born as it has been awhile since we have had that coloring be born in our home. To our surprise she had 5 gorgeous Black and Tans and 1 Red Sesame. We plan to keep 3 puppies. One male and two females (including the Red Sesame). Their Names are Ruxpin, Ebony and Bliss. We look forward to watching them grow.

Molly had a interesting litter of 4, born July 28th. She was bred to Shubert, our cream male. She had 2 dark creams, 1 red and 1 solid black pup. We were very excited to see a solid black, just like her.

Mitsue's pups are growing so fast. Already at 4.5 weeks old, they have started eating puppy food and started developing their own personalities. The girl, Ginger, will be going to a home in New Foundland. Two boys have also found homes, here in Alberta. Only one boy left. Check out our website for more stories and details on the pups.
