New Litter
We would like to announce our newest litter. Kitty gave birth to two healthy boys on January 30th. One red and one red sesame. I was a little surprised that there were only two as she was showing big, I assumed she would have around 4 pups. Never the less, we are happy everything went well and are blessed to meet these two beautiful boys.
This was Kitty's first litter. Just like always, we set up our pregnant Shibas' crate in our room. It is a quieter, safe zone for mama and her new pups for the first week or so. Being in our room also helps when they decide to give birth in the middle of the night (so I can wake up and make sure everything goes smoothly). Anyways, Kitty had a different plan. She loves the couch, it is her favourite spot in the house .... with that said, she decided she wanted to have her pups in 'her spot'! I tried moving her to her crate, but she up right refused. So I grabbed some towel and laid them under her. She was quite content and had a fast delivery! An hour after she was done, my husband and I moved her and her pups into her crate (then scrubbed the couch ..hahaha). My husband and I had quite the chuckle over her wanting to be on the couch. A day earlier my husband half jokingly said, 'I think Kitty is nesting on the couch, I bet she will have them there!'.

Thanks Michelle for the update and the great photo's.
Hi Jennifer,
Michelle
Thanks Michelle for the update and the great photo's.
Hi Jennifer,
Just saw your new website and thought I should share some Saru's adorable pictures and videos with you! I actually created a YouTube account for him and he's famous! haha :P
Here's the link to one of the recent videos: http://youtu.be/ BzNIFif_itg
Saru has grown a lot since his first day home. He's totally leaning out, went from a cute lil Simba to a real fox. He has a lot of personality, loves playing with bigger dogs and loves going up to people on the streets. He's the "want it all" kind of dog. Sometime he can't decide which toy to play with and somehow, he manages to play with them all at once. Ever since Vancouver's first snow of the winter, he's been shedding lots. We have to brush him everyday to keep his smooth soft coat. He loves cuddling with us on the sofa and he enjoys chilling on our bed while looking out the windows.
He's probably the cutest dog anyone has met. Gets so much attention everywhere we go. And he's getting more and more handsome each day! Agreed by a lot of Shiba owners that we met! :)

Callie's Ear
Our poor Calliope did not have a very good start to the New Year.
Missing a little part of herself, but keeping her spirits high.
A couple days before the new year, Callie and one of our male dogs got into a scrap. Her ear was ripped to shreds, well at least that's how it seemed. After cleaning it up and getting a better look, we noticed that it was ripped from one side to the other The tip of her ear was hanging on by a centimeter. The cartilage in the ear was ripped and separated.
The vet was able to attach the ear tip back to its proper place. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough blood flow to the tip of the ear and it need to be removed.

We had to bandage up her ear as it was bleeding and dangling lower then her face.
She would shake and get blood everywhere :(
This picture was taken at the vet before her reattachment surgery.
This picture shows the ear reattached a day after surgery. Callie wasn't to happy about the cone and was able to get it off several times within a 9 day period.
On day ten, after Surgery one, Callie went back to the vet to get stitches out and to see if the ear tip attachment was successful. It wasn't, as there was no blood flow to the tip. Callie stayed that day and had her second surgery to remove the died tissue. The vet saved the tip for me, shown in picture above. I was little a grossed out, but worth the picture.
Above and below pictures are Callie the night after Surgery two. This is the good angle and it just looks a little shorted then the left ear. The right ear is actual more ridged then it looks. I'll get more pictures as her ear heals and the fur grows back.
Archie - update
Archie (Winnie x Hiro 2011 litter)
Archie is doing great. He has a new favorite toy, an empty beer case that's in the back yard. I don't even bother to buy him toys from the pet store anymore, he prefers free or cheap things like chopsticks or hockey pucks. I also recently found out that he loves to chase a laser pointer. It's a great way to drain him of some energy lol. I also found out this winter that Archie is a climber! He loves to climb up tall snow piles, I even got him a super long leash so he can go all the way to the top. I tried to get a good picture but he won't stay still. Also loves he uses his charm to get belly rubs in the morning. The picture of him on his back is the look he gives me every morning when I wake up, I call it Archie's "please tickle my belly"face. Anyways, I will keep you posted with new pictures throughout the year. Here's some I've taken recently. Keep posting pictures of your shiba family, I love looking at them.
